| This is an upright, stout, deciduous shrub or small tree, to 10' tall and wide. Young shoots are shiny, dark green, winter shoots are reddish-brown with bright red buds. Leaves are oblong, fine-toothed, shiny, deep green, underside with silky hairs, to 7" long. Narrow, medium-green catkins, males to 5" long and females to 7". A beautiful specimen by water, but don't plant this tree anywhere near a septic system or its lines or you and the Roto-Rooter man will know each other on a first name basis. Native to Central China. |
