| Achimenes is a Mexican species, very distinct and unusual. Dormant, rhizomatous perennials, Achimenes are grown for their flowers that appear from summer to fall. Each of the rhizomes produces a single upright, spreading, or trailing stem, with or without branches. Achimenes patens grows to 15 inches tall. Bears purple flowers with white throats on short stems. During growing season, feed every two weeks. Likes a warm and light location, out of direct sun. Dies back over the winter. Dormant rhizomes can be kept in peat moss at 50 degrees Fahrenheit. |
