| Acer cissifolium is a small maple rarely seen in cultivation, height 20 to 30 feet, spread similar. Young trees are upright in growth habit, in maturity taking a wide spreading mushroom shape. Summer foliage is medium green, fall color is gold to red. Inconspicuous flowers are borne on 2- to 4-inch racemes, fruit is a 1 inch long samara. Horizontal branches twist in an elegant way, and the smooth gray bark is attractive. Prefers moist, well drained soil, part shade. Native to Japan. |
