| Achimenes flava, similar to Achimenes coccinea in habit, blooms in masses of small pale yellow flowers. Achimenes is a Mexican species, very distinct and unusual. Dormant, rhizomatous perennials, Achimenes are grown for their flowers that appear from summer to fall. Each of the rhizomes produces a single upright, spreading, or trailing stem, with or without branches. During growing season, feed every two weeks. Likes a warm and light location, out of direct sun. Dies back over the winter. Dormant rhizomes can be kept in peat moss at 50 degrees Fahrenheit. |
