| Idesia polycarpa is a medium large deciduous tree, 40 to 60 feet wide. Growth habit is pyramidal in youth, rounded with maturity. Summer foliage is dark green, fall color is unremarkable. Flowers are fragrant, small, yellow-green, borne on 5 to 6 inch panicles. The fruit is an attractive red berry, borne on 4 to 8 inch panicles, swaying in the breeze, truly beautiful, requires both male and female tree. Prefers loose, moist, well drained soil and full sun. Not seriously bothered by pests. Excellent tree for large landscaping such as parks where trees can be massed for effect. Native to Japan, China. |
