| C. cordata is rarely seen outside botanical gardens or private collections, Heartleaf Hornbeam has larger, slightly heart-shaped leaves, is rounded in habit and tends to be in the smaller range for height, usually not more than thirty feet. Cultivated for ornamental foliage and pendant, leafy-bracted racemes of fruit. Gray bark is fluted and smooth. Leaves are mid-green, ovate, unequally toothed and 3 to 5 inches long. This tree is attractive in a park or woodland setting. |
