| Rhodotypos scandens is a small to medium sized shrub with a loose, mounded habit, arching branches. While reaching 15 feet in the wild, under cultivation it rarely exceeds 3 to 6 feet height, 4 to 9 feet spread. Summer foliage is bright green, in fall it aquires a yellow tone. Early summer flowering, white, 1 to 2 inch wide, 4 petalled flowers are borne singly on short twigs. A shiny black drupe appears in clusters of 3 to 4 in mid fall, remaining until the following spring. Very tolerant plant for various conditions, and not troubled by pests. Good for border, shady areas, and massing. Native to Japan and China. |
