| This variety is a vigorous growing pyramidal tree, offered by Lousiana Nursery, Opelousas, Lousiana.
Deciduous tree which sometimes reaches 30-50 feet tall. Growth habit is rounded and open. Bark is smooth, grayish brown with purplish twigs. Leaves are large, smooth on upper surfaces, furred beneath. The fragrance of the flowers is unpleasant to some. The large purplish fruit provide fall interest. Fast growing and fairly cold hardy. Looks best when grown as a single stemmed tree.
Native from Pennsylvania to Georgia, west to Mississippi in moist woodlands. |
