Liquidambar styraciflua
( Lollipop Sweetgum )
| This deciduous tree has a growth habit that is globus. Star-shaped leaves are reminiscent of some maples. They have 5-7 lobes and appear either alternate or palmate and medium green and glossy, turning to striking purples, reds and oranges. Leaves are followed by mace-like fruit clusters. Plant in full sun for best fall colors. Many homeowners will object to the gum balls so consider the cultivar 'Rotundiloba' which is fruitless. |
| Important Info : Able to withstand swampy or dry sites. Trees can become chlorotic if soil is too alkaline.Leaves are green turning orange, red, or purple in the fall. |
