| Formosana is a rhizomatous perennial, spreading by stolons with upright, zig-zagging, hairy stems. Leaves are lance-shaped to ovate, veined, glossy and dark green in color, spotted darker purplish green. Produces upward-facing, star-shaped, white to pinkish white or pinkish purple flowers with reddish purple spots inside, yellow tepal bases and heavily red-spotted white stigmas. In general, Tricyrtis is a woodland perennial resembling false Solomon's Seal in foliage. Flowers are somewhat orchid-like, spotted, 1 inch wide, blooming in late summer or early fall. Flowers bloom at leaf bases and in terminal clusters. They need rich organic soil, and a moist woodland environment. |
