| From late summer to midautumn, this subshrubby perennial, involucrata blooms in purplish red flowers, to 2 inches long with pink bracts that fall as the flowers open. Soft, egg-shaped, notched hairy green leaves to 5 inches long grow out of branched stems. Salvia can be planted in a sunny border, in a meadow or used for bedding and container planting. They grow best in light moderately fertile and humus rich soil, moist but well drained in full sun to light shade. |
