| Santolina virens is an evergreen subshrub, mounding and low, resembles Santolina chamaecyparissus but the foliage is deep green, and the growth habit is more compact. Bright yellow, 3/4" flowers are held on 10" long stalks and contrast nicely with the dark foliage in mid summer. Prefers dry, lean soil, or sand, and has some salt tolerance. Does not require fertilizer. Prune after flowering. It is not quite as hardy as Lavender Cotton, native to southern Europe. |
