| C. scandens is a vigorous, deciduous , twining vine. It is fast growing, and can engulf other shrubs and trees, girdling the stems. Foliage is glossy green, yellowish in fall, flowers are not showy, yellowish-white borne on 2-4 inch panicles. The fall fruit is a 3 lobed capsule, yellow orange, used extensively for dried flower arrangements, both sexes are needed to set fruit. It is extremely adaptable to invasive, best to place it in poor soil, so it does not overgrow. Can be suject to a few pests. It is useful for covering a waste space, rubble, or fence. |
