| The oval-elongated, thin, flat green joints reach up to 7 inches in length and are without spines as the norm but may have 1 to 3 white, backwards arching spines together only on the marginal areoles while brown glochids cover the surface. In summer the large sulphur yellow flowers are borne singly and then produce pear shaped fruit. This genus has the largest membership of sun loving species. Australia has even banned a few species because of their rapid growth. |
