| This is an upright, bushy, deciduous shrub or small tree, to 10' tall and 12' wide. Leaves are oblong to oval, grayish-green on top, underside with silky-grayish hairs, to 4" long. Showy, narrow, black male catkins, to 1 1/2" long, with dark red anthers. Cut branches make very interesting arrangements. A beautiful specimen by water, but don't plant this tree anywhere near a septic system or its lines or you and the Roto-Rooter man will know each other on a first name basis. |
