| Achimenes is a Mexican species, very distinct and unusual. Dormant, rhizomatous perennials, Achimenes are grown for their flowers that appear from summer to fall. Each of the rhizomes produces a single upright, spreading, or trailing stem, with or without branches. Achimenes antirrhina has flowers that are cream or yellow, striped purple with spotted red color in the throats. The dark green leaves are toothed and downy. |
