| Achimenes is a Mexican species, very distinct and unusual. Dormant, rhizomatous perennials, Achimenes are grown for their flowers that appear from summer to fall. Each of the rhizomes produces a single upright, spreading, or trailing stem, with or without branches. The dark green leaves are toothed and downy. Achimenes bella, a native of Brazil, grows to 2 feet with large leaves and mid-blue tubular flowers. |
