| Pieris formosa is an attractive evergreen shrub, particularly suited for the west. It will grow over 10 feet in height with a rounded habit. The new leaves are brilliant red in spring, 3 to 7 inches long, providing colorful spring foliage. Flowers are white, urn-shaped, and held in pendent, terminal panicles.
Prefers a cool temperate climate, moist, well drained, acid soil.
Flower buds are formed during the summer before flowering and persist on the shrub through winter. 'Charles Michael' bears red young foliage and large flowers, to 1/2 inch long, in large panicles, to 7 inches long. |
