| Often sold as Chrysanthemum atratum. Coarse, leathery spoon shaped deep green leaves with yellow disk petals (2 inches across) and whiteray florets begin blooming in May, with largest show around early June, then continue sporadically until frost. Flower stalks are 2 to 4 feet tall making these splendid in borders. Shasta Daisies make excellent cut flowers, as they are long lasting ( most Chrysanthemums are). Tolerant of many soils, but do require water in hot, sunny climates. Divide clumps every 2 years or establish plants from seed. Grow Shasta daisies if you love to share plants with your friends. You'll all have plenty within 3 years! Remove and discard spent flowers to prolong bloom period. |
