| O. cerasiformis bears pale green, broadly lance-shaped, alternate leaves, 2 to 3 inches long. Small, greenish-white flowers hang in nodding terminal clusters; male and female flowers appear on separate plants. Purple, olive-sized fruit ripens early and attracts birds. The raw fruit tastes slightly bitter, but is used to make a rich jelly. To get fruit both a male and female shrub must be planted. |
