Prunus salicina
( Autumn Rosa Japanese Plum )
| Japanese plums grow 15-20 feet with a somewhat wider spread. They produce round to heart-shaped fruit ranging in color from green to yellow and brilliant red to deep purple-black. Fruit is larger and juicier than the European varieties and are mostly used for fresh fruit only.
Plums can grow in many soil types but do best in fertile, well-drained soil. Periodic deep watering in summer months is advised, even though trees are fairly drought tolerant. Heavy pruning is necessary at all ages.
Aphids, mite eggs, scale, brown rot, and peach borer can all be a problem. |
| Important Info : Brown rot, aphids, fruit bark beetle, peach borer and plum curculio can be a problem. |
