Capsicum chinense
( Yellow Bird s Eye Capsicum Pepper )
| The cultivar, Yellow Bird's Eye' has an erect habit with multiple stems. Foliage is green to dark green with large leaves up to 6 inches long and 4 inches wide. Pods average 1/2 in length and 1/2 inch in width. At maturity these peppers are yellow.
C. chinense varieties have been crossed with bell peppers to produce sweet hybrids that are more disease resistant than the species C. annuum. There is a great diversity of pod shape and heat levels in this species and often referred to as habanero. The flowers have white or green corollas and purple anthers and set 2 to 6 fruits per node. The leaves are pale to medium green, large and wrinkled and sometimes reach up to 6 inches long and 4 inches wide. |
| Important Info : Some chinense peppers score 577,000 Scoville heat units so watch out! They do best in full sun and generally fail in northern climates. |
