Bladderworts may be either free-floating, terrestrial, or epiphytic annuals or perennials. These insectivores live in waters that attract mosquito. For the most part rootless, these free-floaters have specially developed leaves that have bladders that catch, trap and absorb insects. Flowers are borne atop leafless stems and held above the water. Requires acid water and full sun. Water temperature needs to be 54 to 59 degrees Farenheit for hardy species, and at least 66 degrees for tender species. Divide large floating mats in summer.
