Rest assured. It'll turn orange when it ripens more. I pick my pumpkins when 1/2 the rind turns orange, then I let them finish ripening in the house.

: Last year we put a standard old pumpkin on our porch for Holloween. I asked my son to get rid of it after it started to rot and he did, right into my flower bed!
: I noticed it growing this spring and promised my son that I would let one plant grow for him. Now I am confused. The old pumpkin was orange and small abt. 15lbs. I hand-pollinated it about 2-3 weeks ago which worked. Now I have a green striped "thing" growing at an alarming rate. It is already 12in long and 10 in high, abt the same size as the one it came from. This is my first plant also, maybe they are supposed to grow that fast? How did I get a green pumpkin from and orange one? Thank you for the help.
