A lot of the growers that I have met online have said that a person could grow a competitive pumpkin on as little as 400 square feet. And I agree with them. Nic Welty, a kind of a pumpkin growing genius, discribes how to trim a pumpkin plant into a Christmas tree pattern @ http://web.raex.com/%7Eldnwelty/pumpkin/xmastree.htm, which would be a very good way to go for a small patch. Oh, and pick a nice and sunny spot!
