Pumpkin stem split........HELP!!!!

I have a large pumpkin growing well, but I noticed a stem split on both sides, top and bottom along the grain of the stem going in the pumpkin. I don't think it went througfh, so I filled it with silicon sealer to keep bugs out. What else should I do??????????
