Vegetable
- Cropping: (Summer)
Description: An outstanding cabbage which has a delicious sweet flavour! Early to mature, with extremely tight, solid, football size heads, which when cut open reveal a pristine ivory-white interior. Excellent for coleslaw and an ideal candidate for the show bench.
Sowing Instructions: For earliest crops sow under glass in late February/early March and plant out early spring. For main crop sow outdoors in a well-prepared seed bed in late March. Sow thinly 12mm (½in) deep in rows 23cm (9in) apart. If the soil is dry, water well and allow to drain before sowing.
Growing Instructions: Transplant at the 5-6 leaf stage, allowing 60cm (2ft) between plants. The soil should be firm and in good heart, containing plenty of well-rotted compost etc, preferably from a previous crop. It should also be well limed. Before planting rake in 3oz sq. yd of a balanced fertiliser. Water in dry weather and give liquid feed as the heads start to develop. Harvest late summer.
Aftercare Instructions: To avoid the danger of Clubroot grow your Brassicas in a different site each year so that they only occupy the same spot once in four years.
