Sowing Instructions: Sow December to March for summer flowering July to September for winter flowering. Sow seed in pots or trays of moist seed compost and cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. After sowing, seal container inside a polythene bag and keep at 15-20C (60-68F). Place container in darkness. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 10-15 days, although check regularly and remove from darkness as soon as seedlings begin to appear. Also take care not to provide too high a temperature during germination, as this can prevent emergence.
Growing Instructions: When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. When well grown, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 23-30cm (9-12in) apart in a moist, well-drained soil in full sun or part shade.
Aftercare Instructions: Summer sowings should be moved to a coldframe and planted out in early spring.
