Vegetable
- Cropping: Harvest from July onwards. Lift roots before winter weather and store in boxes of moist peat/sand.
Description: Attractive green-skinned 'pear shaped' roots, with pale green flesh, and a mild, crisp flavour. Ideal sliced thinly to add colour to salads or stir fries. Once tried you'll always grow them. Best sown in seed trays or modules and transplanted later. Stands well through Christmas, and can be lifted and stored in boxes of peat or sand. Best sown June-July to avoid bolting.
Sowing Instructions: Sowing Time: April to July. Sow thinly, 13mm (1/2in) deep in drills 30cm (12in) apart in well-drained, fertile soil, which has been raked to a fine tilth.
Growing Instructions: Water ground regularly, especially in dry periods. Thin out seedlings to allow 2.5cm (1in) between plants. Keep cool and moist to prevent running to seed.
