Hardy Deciduous Tree
- Flowers: Late Spring to early Summer
- Height: 24 feet
- Hardiness Rating: 7 8 9
- Germination: Challenging
- Aftercare: Care Required
Description: Blooms have a delightful fragrance. A challenge to raise but very economic and superbly rewarding.
Sowing Instructions: Sow immediately, it is helpful if the seed is first mixed with moist peat, sealed in a plastic bag and placed in the salad part of the refrigerator for a month. After this period sow individually 12mm (½in) deep in 7.5cm (3in) pots of a good, moist, free draining seed compost and place outdoors in a cold frame or plunge the pots up to their rims in a sheltered part of the garden and cover with glass, jam jars, etc. Germination can be very erratic, sometimes some seeds may emerge within a few weeks of sowing, and the rest don't germinate until after a year or more.
Growing Instructions: After germination, grow on for 3-4 years in a cold frame or nursery bed before planting out in March or April in a good, well drained soil, full sun and sheltered from north and east winds. Allow 3-4.5m (10-15ft) between specimens when planting out and keep well watered until they are established.
