Description
A new British re-selection that gives an improved form of the ever popular Achievement. Heavy yields of long, smooth, slender straight pods that have exquisite flavour are produced in abundance over a long season. Red flowered variety, particularly attractive in the garden.
Sowing Instructions
| Sowing time: | After last frost so that pods will mature in the cooler weather of late summer to early fall |
Sow mid April in pots indoors in short season areas only Sow outdoors after last frost. Sow 5cm (2in) deep in a well prepared soil. It is best to erect supports before planting. Allow 2 plants per pole placed at 15-20cm (6 to 8in) apart as a structure, or grow up netting or a 4 cane wigwam. Allow about 1 metre (3ft) between wigwams.
Growing Instructions
Water copiously during dry weather, particularly when flowers are forming, as roots must never be allowed to dry out. Mulch heavily with compost/grass cuttings. Pinch out once plants have reached the tops of supports. Pick regularly to ensure continuous cropping. Flowers require pollination to set pods, unlike pole or snap beans.
Aftercare Instructions
Grows in any fertile soil in full sun.
Caution
Please note that beans must be cooked before eating to avoid discomfort.
