Description

Viola Sylettas&trade is a selection by Thompson & Morgan of the species Viola koreana.

This is no ordinary Viola! Compact, vigorous plants with Cyclamen-like leaves. The mid-green foliage is marbled in silver-grey, having a rich maroon-red underside and graced with lots of mauve-pink flowers. Superb as an indoor pot plant, grown in low containers on the patio, or in a sheltered position in the garden. Flowers spring. Height 10-15cm (4-6in).

Sowing Instructions

Sowing time:February to April.
Sowing depth:1.5mm (1/16in)

Sow in a good seed compost. Seal in a polythene bag and place in a refrigerator, at 3-5C (35-41 F) for 2-4 weeks, then move to a temperature of 18-20C (65-70F). Germination usually takes a further 21-40 days. Inspect regularly while in the fridge and remove if they start to germinate.

Growing Instructions

Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Later plant out 15-23cm (6-9in) apart in ordinary garden soil, sun or light shade. To grow as a pot plant, place on a cool well lit window and protect from strong sun.
