Description
Spectacular and exotic, a self-clinging climber that produces a proliferation of rich crimson, rouge-red trumpet shaped blooms.
Suitable for pergolas, south walls and fences.
Moderately vigourous and hardy in many areas.
Sowing Instructions
| Sowing time: | February to July. |
Sow in trays, pots, etc of good seed compost in a propagator or warm place to maintain an optimum temperature of 70-75F (20-25C).
Sow in well drained compost, just covering the seed with compost, but do not exclude light, which is beneficial to germination.
Sometimes slow to germinate.
If no germination after 8 weeks, pre-chill for 3 weeks.
Growing Instructions
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots.
Transplant into a 13cm (5in) pot and plunge in a nursery bed and plant out the following spring.
Aftercare Instructions
They prefer a well-drained soil, with plenty of compost added and a sheltered site in full sun.
Provide something for them to climb and tie in during the early stages of growth.
