Vegetable
- Cropping: 56 Days
- Ideal for: Children
Description
A succulent, delightful flavour and the tops steamed or boiled are highly nutritious and spinach-like, eaten when the beet is between golf and tennis ball size. Sow thicker than normal as Burpee's Golden has inherent lower germination trait.
Sowing Instructions
| Sowing time: | spring to early summer |
| Sowing depth: | 3cm (1 in) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart. |
Sow very thinly in drills.
Growing Instructions
When the seedlings are large enough to handle thin them out gradually to 10cm (4in) apart. The later thinnings will be large enough to use in salad. Pull the beetroot when the roots are 4cm (1½in) diameter or larger.
Aftercare Instructions
The smaller the roots the better the quality. In mid autumn lift the remaining roots, twist off the tops and use or store in a clamp as you would potatoes. Days to maturity: 56.
