Description
An easy to grow annual with compact, uniform plants which are early to flower.
The large, semi double blooms of deep cherry-rose appear over a long period and look good in border and containers.
Flowers summer to frost.
Height 30-45cm (12-18in).
Sowing Instructions
| Sowing time: | Outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed or indoors in peat pots 2-4 weeks before last frost |
Sow where they are to flower in rows 30cm (12in) apart in well cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.
Growing Instructions
Thin out to 15-23cm (6-9in) apart when the seedlings are large enough to handle.
For earlier flowering or for containers, sow in early spring at a temperature of 13-16C (55-60F) and transplant into 7.5cm (3in) pots.
If sown indoors, gradually acclimate to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost.
Aftercare Instructions
They flower most freely in full sun and poor dryish soils.
Before planting in containers make sure they are well rooted in their pots.
Kitchen Notes
The leaves taste like watercress, the flowers add a spicy touch to salads and the green seeds can be chopped and used with parsley as a garnish or made into a substitute for capers. Write to us for a free leaflet with recipes for a wide range of edible flowers.
