Sprouting Seeds : Broccoli
Vegetable
- Cropping: 3-4 days
- Ideal for: Children
Description
One of the most nutritious sprouting seeds you can eat, with a tangy flavour ideal for use in salads. Amazingly, after only 3 days of sprouting, the compound Sulforaphane is more concentrated than in the mature vegetable. Best grown on damp tissue, compost or cotton wool.
Sowing Instructions
| Sowing time: | Any time of year. |
| Sowing depth: | Sow either in seed trays on the surface of compost, or on the surface of pads of cotton wool, or kitchen towel. |
Place the growing medium in a small container or saucer and moisten well before sowing the seed thickly over the surface. Place container in a warm, well-lit place - a kitchen windowsill is ideal. Ensure the growing medium is kept moist at all times and seeds will germinate very quickly.
Growing Instructions
Sprouted seeds will store in an unsealed polythene bag in the fridge for 3 or 4 days. Rinse regularly.
Kitchen Notes
Use raw to add flavours and textures to salads and sandwiches, or blanch in boiling water to add to other vegetables in stews, soups, casseroles and curries. Also delicious added to stir fries.
