Spinach : Bordeaux F1 Hybrid

Vegetable

  • Cropping: Harvest May to October
  • Position: Full sun
  • Soil: Well drained

Description

New breeding in spinach to provide stunning red stems and leaf veins contrasting against a darker green leaf. A sweeter flavour and the colour contrast provides a superb 'salad leaf ingredient', as 'baby spinach' or as a steamed vegetable.

Sowing Instructions

Sowing time:March to mid June and August to September outdoors.
Sowing depth:13mm (½in) deep in broad drills 30cm (12in) apart.

Sow thinly outdoors in soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Can also be sown in pots or containers on the patio for use as 'baby salad leaves'. Earlier and later sowings can extend the season under cloches.

Growing Instructions

Thin seedlings to 5cm (2in) apart when large enough to handle, use thinnings in salads. Harvest leaves as required, picking only a few from each plant. Keep well watered during dry weather. Sowings made in height of summer may bolt. Prefers a rich, moist well drained soil in full sun.

Kitchen Notes

Sweeter tasting leaves than conventional green spinach so just toss into a mixed salad.
