These long-flowering vigorous climbing plants look spectacular when trained over walls, fences and hedges. They lack tendrils, but will scramble happily over trellis work, sheds, fences etc. Flowers summer-autumn. Climber.

Sowing Instructions

Sowing time:Outdoors after last frost when soil has warmed or indoors in peat pots 2-4 weeks before last frost
Sowing depth:20mm (¾in)

Sow where they are to flower in well cultivated soil in a sunny open site. Sow in rows 30cm (12in) apart and thin out to 60cm (24in) between plants.

For earlier flowering they can be sown in early spring at a temperature of 13-16C (55-60F) and transplanted into 7.5cm (3in) pots.

Growing Instructions

If sown indoors, gradually acclimate to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost. They flower most freely in poor dryish soils.

Kitchen Notes

The leaves taste like watercress, the flowers add a spicy touch to salads and the green seeds can be chopped and used with parsley as a garnish or made into a substitute for capers.
