Sowing Instructions

Sowing time:late winter to mid summer.

Sow in a good seed compost just covering the seed with a thin layer of compost or vermiculite. Seal in a polythene bag after sowing, place in a refrigerator, and leave at 3-5C (35-41 F) for 3 weeks. Inspect regularly while in the fridge and remove immediately if they start to germinate, after 3 weeks move to a temperature of 15-18C (60-65F). When germination should take 21-30 days. Lower the temperature a little after germination and grow on in good light.

Growing Instructions

When large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings carefully into 7.5cm (3in) pots, and grow on in well ventilated conditions. Later, gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out 30cm (12in) apart in full sun or light shade and ordinary garden soil.

Aftercare Instructions

It will also tolerate quite dry soils. After planting, water well during dry spells. Freckles usually produces seed pods without actually flowering in the autumn and then normal flowers the next spring and summer.
