Description

A delightful new annual for the summer garden, perfect also for hanging baskets, containers, window boxes, etc, with a delightful open spreading habit and fresh delicate foliage. The 1-1-1½in blooms start off slate blue and gradually change to a soft pale blue as they age. If spent blooms are removed regularly the plants will flower all summer long and continue into autumn if the basket or container is brought indoors in late summer. Flowers summer. Height 30cm (12in), spread 35cm (14in).

Sowing Instructions

For earliest flowers sow in September/October and over winter under glass, alternatively sow in January or early February, the earlier the better. Sow on the surface of a 3in pot of good free draining seed compost and cover with a very light sprinkling of Vermiculite. Seal in a polythene bag and don't exclude light. Germination takes 10-28 days at 18-20C (65-70F).

Growing Instructions

Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots and grow cool and well lit. Keep September/October sowings at 10-13C (50-55F) in good light and ventilation. Water carefully so they don't sit in cold wet soil. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out in late spring after all risk of frost 30cm (12in) apart in a sheltered spot in light, well drained soil and full sun. For window boxes, baskets, containers, etc, allow 15cm (6in) between plants.

Aftercare Instructions

Plants will over winter in a frost free greenhouse, conservatory etc, if lifted in autumn.
