Description

A collection of five contrasting Basils to provide different leaf textures, colours and fragrances.
CINNAMON is highly ornamental because of its purple flowers and dark green leaves and cinnamon-like aroma.
LEMON with afresh citrus fragrance.
SWEET which combines the flavours of mint and cloves.
BUSH with compact habit and spicy leaves.
THAI with purple-red flowers and fresh green foliage which offers an intense licorice aroma.

Excellent for bedding edging and the vegetable or flower garden and also happy on a windowsill or in pots on the patio.

PACKET CONTENTS: One packet each of: Cinnamon Basil, lemon Basil, Sweet Basil, Bush Basil and Purple leaved Thai Basil.

Sowing Instructions

Sowing time:late February to late April.
Sowing depth:1/16in (1.5mm)

Sow in good seed sowing compost. Germination takes 7-14 days at 65-70F (18-20C).

Growing Instructions

When large enough to handle transplant the seedlings to 7.5cm (3in) pots and when well grown gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions. Plant out in May after all risk of frost has passed 30cm (12in) apart, preferably in a warm, sheltered site in full sun and well-drained soil.

Aftercare Instructions

Water early in the day and don't overwater. Purple Basil also looks good as the centrepiece of a hanging basket. For containers and baskets grow on in 7.5cm (3in) pots and plant up allowing each plant 10-15cm (4-6in) of space. Pick the leaves anytime for fresh use or freezing; for drying pick as the flowers start to open. Basil oil or vinegar is easy to make and will capture its unique flavour.
