Carrots prefer a deep rich, well drained soil which does not contain fresh manure.
The soil should be moist and easy to cultivate, rake well and sow in drills.
Carrot seeds can be slow to germinate especially if the soil is dry.
Growing Instructions
As soon as the seedlings are large enough to handle, start thinning them gradually so that they are finally 10-15cm (4-6in) apart.
Aftercare Instructions
The thinnings will provide tender roots for salads etc.
Harvest the roots as soon as they are large enough, any left in the ground in autumn should be lifted and stored in a clamp or in boxes of sand in a shed or other cool dry place.
