: I live in central Pa. and Last fall (NOV 2002)I had 70 EMERALD ARBORVITAES (4' to 5') planted and this spring they have quite a lot of yellow leaves and some looking brown. We did have a hard winter and maybe that contributes to it. I also was wondering if maybe the root system is not established yet. There is green on them, some more than others. I don't know that much about shrubry, so I could use a little help. Is there something I should be doing to help these trees other than watering. Do they have a chance to make it I hate to lose them. The older leaves, on the inside of the tree nearest to the trunk, turn brown and drop. No chemical controls are necessary. Feed the tree with evergreen fertilizer (more acidic fertilizer), and provide full sun. Check the plants for insects and mites during the year.
