Potted Patio Gardenia

I have two very healthy Gardenias in pots on my deck. They are shaded in the morning hours and get sun from about 2-7p.m. They have been fertilized and look gorgeous with numerous buds & no pests. However, many of the buds keep falling off the shrub before opening. Any ideas??
