Hi Carol,

Colorado Blue Spruce is a tree. You can do a search at www.google.com and put in quotes "Colorado blue spruce" to verify that. All trees start small and may look like a shrub when young but, like humans, they do grow as it's in their genes.

Take a look at this site for help with the dead looking center. Click on 'Needled Evergreens', NOT 'Needled Evergreen Shrubs'.
