Getting Rid Of Forsithia

: I recently moved a fence in my backyard and no longer have a good place for the 6 forsithia bushes that were planted along the old fence.  I cut them down to the ground, but I cant seem to keep them from growing back almost overnight!  Is there a way I can kill out the stumps & roots without digging them all up ???
