Broadleaf Evergreens, such as holly, are best pruned in early spring when new growth begins. Pruning too late in the season will produce new growth that could possibly be killed during the winter months. Pruning late drains the needs carbohydrates for winter survival, so it depends on your temperature zone.

: I have three holly bushes in the front of my house. Two of wich have a lighter green leaves and one has a darker leaf. The light green ones are so big that they need trimed. Should I trim them, if so what time of the year is it best to do so?
