Bushes for Privacy

We have a planter (3 feet high, 1 foot wide and 40 feet long) and would like to plant some bushes or trees for privacy. Right behind the planter is a 6 feet high separation wall. We live in a dry and sunny area.

The difficulty is the depth of the planter limiting our options. Ultimately we would like the plants to grow up to 12-15 feet high and have limited shedding.
