Pruning ninebark (diablo) ?

I purchased 3 very small Ninebark (Diablo)shrubs and am trying to select the best spot in my yard. The tag shows 10' as ultimate hight. Can they be pruned (and when) to keep them down in size - maybe 5' ? And will this affect the flowering?
I'd appreciate anyone's help on this.
