Snowball Bush

I have been trying for several years to propogate a
snowball bush. My grandmother said to take one of the
snowballs (still on the bush (lower branches) and plant
it in a bucket of soil and it will root.
No such luck.
Anyone have any other ideas?
This snowball bush is the old type. My grandmother had
one like it in her yard 50 years ago. They are hard to
find nowadays.
The snowball bush is flowering, so will have to do it
soon.
